Southwest Governor extol Meme Population for respecting Security
Measures put in place
As a result of the suicide bombing in Maroua by Boko Haram, some
security measures were taken by the South West Governor, few months
back to prevent his region from fall prey to such attacks. In Meme
Division just like in other divisions of Southwest, off- license have
been asked to close before mid night and persons and motor bikes are
not to work after midnight and people should move along with their
national identification card because at any time, they might be
stopped by the law enforcement officers for identification.
The Governor of the Southwest Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, last
Saturday September 12, 2015, during a one day working visit in Meme
Division, congratulated the Administration of the Division for
respecting the measures put in place to ensure security in the
Division and Southwest Region as a whole against Boko Haram. The one
day visit was aimed at ensuring that the security measures that were
put in place few months back for fear of surprising attack from the
dreaded Boko Haram sect is being respected to the later. Governor
Okalia accompanied by the Meme SDO, Koulbout Aman David, the
Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Mayors of the 5
Sub-divisional Councils, together with other stakeholders in the
Division, visited the Kumba Main market, Fiango market, the Mbonge
Road Motor Park, which happens to be the places
vulnerable to the Boko Haram attack in the Far North, and his last
stop was at the proposed site for the construction of the Higher
Technical Teacher's Training College, HTTTC kumba. During his stop at
the markets and the motor park, demonstrations were made on the checks
and control of buyers and sellers at the market and the passengers at
the motor park respectively.
The Governor lauded presidents of the traders union in the kumba
markets and Motor parks respectively, for the effort that they have
been making in ensuring the safety of the population. He urged them
not to relent their efforts, for the fight against Boko Haram concerns
everybody and each and everyone has a role to play in the fight. "
whether or not we are either victims of Boko Haram attack or affected
in one way or the other by their attack in our country, so we have to
work in collaboration with one another" the Governor caution. At the
end of the visit, the Governor called on the population of Meme, to
continue adhering to the security measures that has been put in place
to ensure their security and that of their properties from the
insurgent group. He further stated that South West and Kumba in
particular is a neighboring town to Nigeria, that passes through
Mundemba and Manfe respectively and as such, the population has to
remain vigilant, know their neighbours and make sure to report any
suspected person to the authorities.
