Elites Agreed To Support The Military
South West Governor chaired a meeting to this effect last Friday 13
March 2015 at his service.
The Minister of Trade and Commerce of late launched an operation at
the Nation’s capital whereby goods and financial assistance is donated
by well wishers to support the military in the ongoing fight against
Boko Haram cult. It has transcended into the regions with locals
massively coming out with their own quota of support. In this light,
South West elites, economy operates all converged in the Conference
Hall of the South West Governor’s Office to seek ways of giving their
own material and financial assistance to keep the military’s morale
high in the war against the Islamic sect Boko Haram.
Chairing the meeting, South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai
underscored the need for the elites and economy operators to stand
behind the Head of State and the Arm Forces in the war to eliminate
the sect from Cameroon. He emphasized that the entire nation is
teaming up and South West should not be indifference. “We can’t be
passive at this time that our support is needed by the military. We
should come up with our own little contribution and l want to make it
clear that the support is purely and completely voluntary,” Okalia
Bilai told participants.
South West Regional Delegate of Commerce and Trade, Bipane Abanda
Denis, told the assembly how elected members of the Chamber of
Commerce have deposited money in a certain account for the purpose.
After much deliberation, a commission was set up headed by the Chief
Executive of the Region. At the level of the six administrative
divisions in the South West, the various Senior Divisional Officers
will spearhead the donations. The members equally agreed to open an
account where any financial donation shall be deposited. Through the
Regional Delegate of Communication, Muma Rosette Bih, spots will be
running on all radios and television stations in the South West Region
to sensitized people about the hand-outs.
Friday March 20, 2015 has been set aside to evaluate the activities
and the donations begin from there. By March 27, 2015, the commission
intends to transmit the collect cash and food stuff to the military in
the Far North.
