The Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Motanga Andrew
has expressed his dissatisfaction on the non payment of taxes to the
Limbe City Council by some corporations in his jurisdiction and the
difficulties they are facing in the tax distribution. He expressed his
dismay last March 10, 2015 in Limbe, as the Minister of Finance,
Alamine Ousman Mey inaugurate the Limbe newly constructed Medium Tax
Payers Office (MTO). Motanga Andrew recalled how for the past three
years or so the Limbe City Council have been deprived of its taxes. He
however told the taxation family and the population of Limbe that the
despite the setbacks the minister’s visit is ‘God Sent’ as he shall
get to the base of their problems. He prayed that 2015 should witness
special allocation of funds to the South West Region and Limbe City in
particular as they await the new organisation to go operational.
While inaugurating the centre in Limbe, Minister Alamine Ousman Mey,
expressed gratitude for the success of the project and called on the
population to work hand in hand to support the smooth functioning of
this new organization. He assured the Government Delegate that his
worried will be channeled to the right quarters. The Medium Size Tax
Payers Office, he noted, was created on 24th of June 2014 as part of
the new re-organisation of the operational services at the Directorate
General of Taxation. The centre will engage in activities like Duties
and Taxes, Controls and recovery of taxes and taxable income which
will include the 569 taxpayers found in the South West Region. Besides
Limbe, MTO is created in other cities like Yaoundé, Douala, and
Bafoussam.
One major aim of the Medium Size Taxpayers Office, as the Minister
sighted is to strengthen the new approach of administering taxes which
put the tax payers at the centre of all concern and also ensures a
proper widening of the tax base. Thereby increasing the medium size
enterprises to meet with international standards. Minister Alamine
Ousman Mey also highlighted the various advantages of MTO to
enterprises, that it will provide quality services, effective risk
management and professional management of tax arrears. The
inauguration was witnessed amongst others by South West Governor,
Benard Okalia Bilai.
