Judicial honours and a post- humous decoration were befittingly bestowed on the departed legal icon on Saturday.
The Bongo's square ceremonial ground was the venue where thousands converged to pay last tributes to the Paramount Chief of Buea, His Royal Highness Chief Samuel Moka Lifafa Endeley who departed to meet his ancestors on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Amongst the officials and traditional rulers who answered present to commiserate with the bereaved family and the Bakweri people during the ecumenical service, was the Head of State's personal representative Mr Amadou Ali, Vice Prime Minister , Minister Delegate at the Presidency incharge of Relations with the National Assembly. The Very Rev. Dr. Nyansako-ni-Nku (Moderator Emeritus, PCC), in an reflective expansive sermon on the vicissitudes of life, re-echoed the indelible achievements of late Chief SML Endeley, a man, whom he said lived a righteous life and has left remarkable footprints on the sands of life. Drawing inspiration from Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 Verses 1 to 9, and Psalm 90 Verse 12, the man of God also pegged his sermon on the transitional nature of human life and called on all to live decent lives, cultivate a spirit of forgiveness and be prepared to meet God anytime He calls us. Ministers of the Presbyterian Church, Buea town, paid lofty tributes to the departed Patriarch who did not only serve the church for many years but patronized Church projects and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The role Chief SML Endeley played as a legal Patriarch, politician and community leader, statesman in the defense of national sovereignty, custodian of the Bakweri heritage and family man were elaborately unraveled during eulogies. The Senior Divisional Officer for Fako Mr. Zang III read the condolence message of compassion from President Paul Biya and wife to the bereaved family. The message describes the late icon as a true patriot and calls on all to remain united in this moment of grief. On behalf of the Fako elites, Senator Peter Mafany Musonge noted that Chief SML Endeley was not only a multi-talented personality, but his remarkable simplicity should be enumerated for us to face the challenges that confront us. Senator Nfon Victor Mukete, on behalf of the South West Chiefs’ Conference and the judicial family, notably The Cameroon Bar Association, and other speakers, recalled his biography, achievements, nobility and more specifically the primordial role he play ed in paving the way for the retrocession of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon following a 2002 judgment by the International Court of Justice at the Hague. His political family, through the Secretary General of the Central Committee of CPDM Mr. Jean Kuete, expressed deep emotions and conveyed the condolences of the National President of the Party, President Paul Biya to the bereaved family. Before the venerated Paramount Chief of Buea was buried at his Mokunda Palace, he was post-humously decorated with the ‘Grand Cordon of the Cameroon Order of Merit’ by Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali. The support from the State, Fako elites and other stakeholders was acknowledged by Prince Charles Efungani Endeley who called for unity and collaboration to eradicate the security threat from Boko Haram.
