Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration officially received this February 23,2021, the newly reconstructed office of the Bafut Divisional Officer that was burnt down by separatist fighters.
After the arson, local contractors were afraid to show up for the reconstruction that was tendered. The military through the Rapid Intervention Unit carried out the project. They added an innovation by providing watchtowers that could permit security officials identify people as far as one kilometre from the building.Speaking after the visit of the building, Minister Atanga Nji Paul congratulated the professionalism of the military, commending their collaboration with civilians to ensure the security of people and their property. He said henceforth, all administrative buildings will incorporate security watchtowers for maximum security.
Later on during the day, MINAT held a security meeting with North West Governor, Adolf Lele Afrique along side his administrative and security collaborators. He summed up the security situation of Bafut as encouraging in the face of isolated pockets of resistance by some who have taken up arms against the State. It is against this backdrop that the Minister called on terrorists still in the bush to lay down their arms. This will be supervised by administrative authorities, police, traditional leaders and religious authorities for a honourable way out. He revealed that, based on intelligence the population and the forces of law and order should work in partnership. A situation that has made it possible to neutralise the terrorists. MINAT equally made mention of the twenty weapons that were seized by the defence and security forces of the Wum gendarmerie. This was thanks to information gathered from a civilian. Finally, Territorial Administration boss called on parents to play their role in raising awareness amongst children and their families in other to eradicate terrorism in the North West and South West Regions.
