MINAT GRANTED AUDIENCE TO THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISATION-ICDO.

Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration, had an audience with, Madame Yap Mariatou, the recently elected Secretary General of the International Civil Defence Organisation-ICDO, who was once the former Director of the Department of Civil Protection at the Ministry of Territorial Administration before her new function this February 26, 2021

Mr Andrey Kudinov the Assistant Secretary General of ICDO and Mrs Saltanat Tashmatova in charge of International Cooperation, accompanied her to the audience. Speaking to reporters after their meeting Madam Yap, said she came for the implementation phase of the project on the reinforcement of civil protection in Cameroon though the project is still in the pipeline. She equally added that this project would involve the training of personnel and first respondents on emergency civil protection strategies, using modern equipment like helicopters to put out fires and evacuate victims, and distribute aids, the use of boats in flooded areas for example or motorbikes in difficult terrains to give necessary first aid, before the arrival of ambulances. She also revealed that this would be in collaboration with technical partners from Russia.  Mme Yap further declared that prospects of creating a liaison office of ICDO in Cameroon is in the works to cover the sub region. The personnel working there will have diplomatic passports to permit them move freely to other countries to carryout civil protection actions. The Territorial Administration boss, Atanga Nji stressed  that with the covid-19 pandemic, civil protection is at the limelight and Cameroon is warming up to receive appropriate Civil Protection training to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

The International Civil Defence Day is being celebrates every March 1st. This year 2021, the theme is “Strong civil protection for the preservation of the national economy”
