Four political parties have officially declared their support for President Paul Biya to stand as a candidate for the 2025 presidential elections. The parties made their stands on January 31, 2025, in Yaounde, at the conference hall of the Ministry of Territorial Administration. The separate declarations were handed to the Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nj Paul, who assured the parties that the declaration shall be channelled to President Paul Biya. They are the Union of the Populations of Cameroon (UPC), Movement for Democracy and Defence of the Republic (MDR), Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN), and Parti Republicain des Agriculteurs (PRAC).
The UPC led by the Secretary General, Hon. Robert Bapooh Lipot, highlighted Biya’s governance as a continuation of the legacy of past nationalists like Ruben Um Nyobé. The MDR, led by its president, Daissala Tigana Tassi, praised Biya for his leadership, emphasising his role in maintaining national security, fostering economic growth, and promoting social cohesion. Tigana reaffirmed the longstanding alliance between MDR and the CPDM and urged all Cameroonians to rally behind Biya for a reelection.
Finally, the founder of the PCRN, Robert Kona, joined by PRAC, represented by Mbogol Jean Jacques, endorsed President Biya for his role in peace, unity, and stability in Cameroon and expressed confidence that victory would again be secured under Biya’s leadership.
