4351 rice farmers in Maga receive President Biya’s financial aid

The Minister of Territorial Administration, on instructions from the Head of State, has supervised the distribution of financial aid to rice farmers in Maga, Mayo Danay Division of the Far North Region. The financial aid is a compensation to farmers who were asked to stop cultivation for a period of time for the farms to be rehabilitated by the World Bank. Present were the Mayor of Maga, Ibrahim Boukar; the D.O. of Maga, Sede; the SDO of Mayo Danay, Jean Lazare Ndongo Ndongo; and other stakeholders. Speaking at the site of the aid distribution, the minister said « Initially we started in Yagoua, and we have to pay 8750 beneficiaries. They are very happy, and they have asked me to thank the head of state, President Paul Biya, the father of the nation, because he has understood their challenges and difficulties. Actually, the money was to be paid through the bank, but this would have posed another challenge, as most farmers lack bank accounts. Thus, the process was eased with on-the-spot payment, coordinated by the Civil Protection Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration. Each rice farmer received the sum of two hundred thousand francs for half a hectare of land that was not cultivated. The beneficiaries were grateful for the financial offer. One of them is Amadou Eleve: « We had so many people affected because they stopped the cultivation of rice. This money is coming to help us a lot, especially parents with children in school. We thank the head of state for his kind gesture, » he said with a smile of gratitude. A total of 4351 rice farmers benefitted from the head of state’s gift in Maga.
