The Second Biannual Conference of Regional Governors for the year is in progress. It began on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023 at the Yaounde City Council Hall under the theme « Administrative Authorities: Security Issues and Socio-economic Challenges » aimed to address the prevailing security situation and socio-economic issues encountered by the different regions of the nation. The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, is presiding over the conference and delivered the keynote address at the opener. He emphasized the necessity of overcoming challenges that have captured the public’s attention, such as the increasing cost of food items, frequent disruptions in water and electricity supplies, disturbances in the petroleum product supply chain, the prevalence of substance abuse and drug consumption in schools, urban disorder, and the need to regulate traditional chieftaincy and resolve boundary disputes. Following his address, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Etoga Yves Landry, and the General Delegate for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, jointly presented a statement outlining the measures implemented and planned by the National Gendarmerie and the Police to ensure security during the festive season. In their statement, they highlighted heightened vigilance and the deployment of law enforcement personnel to safeguard the citizens’ well-being during this celebratory period. Meantime governors of the ten regions are giving reports on the welfare of the various regions.
