This February 5th, 2025, the National Bilinguism Week celebration continued at MINAT with a bilingual language test and food exhibition. For the the competition, French speaking Cameroonians were tested in English language while English speaking Cameroonians were tested in French.
The food fair featured dishes like « eru, okonghobong, achu, fufu and njama, okok, khati khati, honey, baobab juice, kirichi, eggusi pudding, ntouna and ndo’o, couscous kelin kelin, couscous foléré and kilishi » The actives were organized by the Translation and Bilingualism Promotion Division (DTPB) coordinated by the Head of Division, Dr. Werebesi Luther under the auspices of the Minister Territoriale Administration, Atanga Nji.
In addition, there was a display of bilingual instruments in MINAT produced by the DTPB. Documents in English and French produced by MINAT’s bilingual experts were brought forth including the Bilingual glossary of terms used in MINAT, the Law governing civil protection in Cameroon and the Decree to organize MINAT and related services. Dr. Werebesi Luther is the Head of the Translation and Bilinguism Promotion Division. Speaking during the exhibition he said the activities are important in strengthening the use of English and French languages. The peak celebration of the Bilingualism week in MINAT takes place on Friday February 7, with a round table discussion. The commemoration was launched in Saturday February 1st, with a football match between the staff of MINAT and the Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters of Cameroon (APTIC).
MINAT is celebrating under the theme « Bilingualism:Leverage of a strong and efficient territorial administration for a responsible citizenship, social integration and cohesion for a peaceful and prosperous Cameroon.
