Some 342 Muslim pilgrims travelled from Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, this Thursday, May 29, 2025, as part of Cameroon’s delegation for Hajj 2025. The group travelled aboard the only flight from Yaounde for this year’s pilgrimage, using Ethiopian Airlines flight number ET 8310. Before boarding, all pilgrims received a special financial subsidy of 350,000 FCFA each, offered by the Head of State, President Paul Biya. This contribution is part of a broader presidential donation of 1.5 billion FCFA aimed at easing the financial burden of the pilgrimage on Cameroonian Muslims. The distribution process was closely supervised to ensure that every beneficiary received their share before departure. Pilgrims arrived at the airport early and went through standard travel procedures, including check-in, security and screening. Many pilgrims, including Ramatou Maguéré, Ibrahima Moussa Ismaëla, Bokoto Aboubacar, and Moustapha Abdoul, all expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Head of State for his generous support and to the organisers for the smooth coordination of the trip. The event was carried out under the supervision of officials from the Ministry of Territorial Administration. As the aircraft took off, it marked the culmination of months of preparation and the beginning of a deeply spiritual journey for the pilgrims representing Cameroon at the holy sites of Islam. This last flight is in Douala this night at 10pm.
