The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, has denounced the destruction of public and private infrastructure in the West Region which took place during protests after the October 12 presidential election, calling on the population to safeguard the assets of the state. He was speaking during a security evaluation session of the election in Bafoussam on November 21, 2025, in the presence of Governor Awa Fonka Augustine, senior divisional officers, divisional officers, and traditional, religious, political, and community leaders. The destruction toll was recorded in Dschang and Bafang, with private and public property either burnt or looted. The minister, however, saluted the portion of the population who rejected the calls for destruction, saying that they should rally behind President Paul Biya for the construction of the nation. In an appeasement message, he invited the elite in the West Region to explore the Head of State’s oath-taking speech and join hands in promoting peace. The minister once again called on the people to respect public authorities and say no to ghost towns because destroying what has been built does not profit anyone. The forces of law and order were congratulated for staying republican. The administrative authorities were also appreciated for ensuring security. The West Region presently reigns in calm. « Cameroonians have refused to replace a strong door with a small plywood window, » Minister Atanga Nji noted.
