BUEA  FLASH FLOOD: SOUTH WEST GOVERNOR CAUTIONS POPULATION

Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilia, has comforted victims of Saturday’s flashflood in Buea. He visited the Buea Regional Hospital where four persons are recovering from the incident. Buea awoke in chaos and grief on Saturday March 18th, 2023 due to heavy down pour which cost human lives and material loss. The rains lasted close to two hours, resulting in the death of two persons. Many others are injured meanwhile others have gone missing. Dozens of buildings were destroyed leaving families homeless. Farmland and food crop has also been lost. Several vehicles were also swept off the road to the gutters. Among the causalities registered, 2 persons notably, a 10-year-old girl and 27-year-old boy died after being swept off by run off. Southwest Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilia chaired a crisis meeting on March 19 where the damage was evaluated and ways to prevent reoccurrence of such disaster was sought. The governor also decried none respect of construction rules which is the reason for the damages caused by the flood. Meantime administrative authorities across the South West and mayors have been charged with sensitizing the population on the importance of respecting construction norms.
