The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, has reviewed the security, political and electoral atmosphere of the East Region. On September 22nd, 2025, in Bertoua, the MINAT boss met with administrative authorities, the regional delegate of ELECAM and the forces of law and order, where he said he has been dispatched by the head of state to review activities ahead of the elections and confer with administrative authorities to underline the conduct that should govern the October 12 polls. Present were the Governor of the East Region, Gregoire Owona; the S.D.O.s leading the four divisions in the East; the Regional Delegate of ELECAM for the East Region, Madam Elise Cyrille Mandgi; and security heads. The Minister said it is dutiful for the Governor, the S.D.O.s and D.O.s to monitor ELECAM to ascertain the provision and availability of electoral materials in the various administrative units; however, the independence of ELECAM has to be upheld. There would be zero tolerance for people whose intention is to sow disorder; rather, stakeholders should abide by state laws to safeguard social peace and living together. Thus, political stakeholders should be responsible. The Minister called on the administrative authorities to work in synergy, exercise vigilance and ensure hitch-free voting. He also charged journalists covering the electoral process to stick to the ethics and deontology of the profession. Minister Atanga Nji stated that President Paul Biya, as a guarantor of justice, wants all Cameroonians to partake in the elections for the interest of the country; thus, the Head of State is calling on the population to denounce hate speech, tribalism, intimidation and any form of nuance that can mar the elections. The Minister thus called on candidates who may have grievances to address their problems through the designated legal frameworks. Turning to the Regional Head of ELECAM, the Minister of Territorial Administration lauded the electoral code of conduct that has been produced and distributed, noting that the document would serve as a reference for best practices. As he rounded off, he enjoined the administrative and security forces to continue in the regard of peacekeeping by protecting people and their property.Once again he called on stakeholders to be responsible before, during and after the elections.
