President Paul Biya, has shown solidarity to victims of October 8th mudslide in Mbankolo. The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtès conveyed Biya’s concern to affected persons this October 9th. Both Ministers visited the disaster site then proceeded to the bedside of victims in the hospital. The mudslide caused 30 death, injuring many including an infant. The Ministers sensitized the population to respect house construction rules to preempt another mudslide. The mudslide resulted from heavy downpour and run off from a hill that break through the dyke of a lake at Nkol Etam, causing destruction on its path, submerging houses with people inside. Rescue teams are currently searching for persons trapped underground. With instructions from the Head of State, Minister Atanga Nji has made available relief material for distribution to affected persons.
Administrative authorities together with community leaders and civil protection agents would first identify vulnerable persons for aid to be properly handed.
