MINAT Boss reaffirms State Authority after Presidential Results, Launches Sledge Hammer for SelProclaimed Winner

« The law will prevail, and order will be maintained by all means. »That was the firm message from the Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, during a press briefing held on October 28, in Yaounde following the official proclamation of the October 12 presidential election results by the Constitutional Council. The Minister condemned the acts of vandalism and violence recorded in some parts of the country after a defeated candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary, illegally declared himself winner and called for popular unrest through social media. He said Tchiroma would face the court for illegally proclaiming himself president and inciting violence and insurrection which has cost severe damages.The Minister revealed that several public buildings and private properties were attacked or set ablaze in towns like Bandja, Figuil, Mandjou, Ngong, Dschang and Douala, leading to loss of lives and injuries among security forces and civilians. He expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families and saluted the professionalism of administrative and security authorities who contained the unrest. Minister Atanga Nji reaffirmed that the security situation is under control and called on citizens to remain calm, responsible and committed to peace.
