Nuncio in Audience with MINAT Boss underline Excellent Vatican relations with Cameroon

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, granted an audience to the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, His Excellency Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt, this Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Representing Pope Francis, the Nuncio delivered a sealed message from the Holy Father to the Minister. During the audience, Archbishop Bettencourt also presented the Pope’s latest encyclical, « Dilexit nos » which speaks of “the human and divine love of the heart of Jesus Christ.” Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt underlined that relations between Cameroon and the Vatican are excellent, citing the just celebrated ten years of the Framework Agreement between Cameroon and the Vatican that had the presence of the Pope’s envoy, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher. Minister Atanga Nji also underscored two visits to Cameroon by Pope John Paul II and the birth of ecclesia in Africa in Cameroon. The Nuncio and the Minister expressed the commitment to continue promoting the values of peace, dialogue and reconciliation. During the meeting, Archbishop Bettencourt extended the Holy Father’s best wishes to both the minister and the nation of Cameroon. Archbishop Bettencourt expressed hope that the ongoing jubilee year in the Catholic Church would open more horizons for Cameroon and the Vatican. He reiterated his commitment to peace, noting that it has been his personal mission since arriving in Cameroon a year and a half ago.
