Dedication of Maroua Cathedral.
The Minister of Territorial Administration Atanga Nji Paul was President Paul Biya’s Personal Representative in a pontifical mass being said to dedicate the Maroua-Founagué Cathedral of Our Lady of Assumption this July 8, 2023
The dedication mass was presided at by Mgr Faustin Ambassa Ndjodo, Archbishop of Garoua, flanked by other Archbishops and a college of clergy. In attendance government officials and ambassadors from different countries, local administrative authorities and Christians.
The dedication of the Founagué Cathedral is part of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Maroua-Mokolo Diocese that has clocked 50 years (1973-2023).
Mgr Bruno Ateba Edo, Bishop of the Diocese of Maroua-Mokolo also rejoiced that the architecture was by Cameroonians using only locally made products from Maroua.
Minister Atanga Nji Paul is accompanied by Ambassadors of the Sovereign Order of Malta, and Gabon, as well as officials of the Ministry of Territorial Administration
The Diocese of Maroua-Mokolo was carved out in 1973 and covers 14,332 square kilometres. It has an estimated two million persons; around 40% are Muslim, 30% Christian and 30% are followers of traditional religions. The Cathedral has a seating capacity of 3600.
