Second biannual governor’s conference 2025: Governors urged to uphold law and order in post-élection Cameroon

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji Paul, has opened the second biannual Conference of Regional Governors at the Yaoundé City Hall this November 25th, 2025, with a clear message: the State will ensure order, responsibility and stability across the national territory. Speaking under the theme « Administrative Authorities and Maintaining Law and Order in a Post-Election Period »,the ministerreaffirmed that the 12 October presidential election was peaceful, credible and transparent, as confirmed by national and international observers. He condemned the post-election violence sparked by a defeated candidate, describing it as a « well-planned rebellion that has failed miserably. » MINAT revealed that several towns recorded acts of vandalism, looting and attacks on security forces, while more than 1,200 perpetrators were arrested and will face justice. Minister Atanga Nji praised the professionalism of defence and security forces, who maintained calm despite multiple provocations. He also reminded political actors and the public that state authority is non-negotiable. Looking ahead to the 30 November regional elections and the end-of-year festivities, the minister instructed governors to reinforce vigilance, secure voters and ELECAM personnel and tackle threats such as crime, terrorism and the growing abuse of drugs among young people.
