Cameroon’s ten Regional Governors have converged for their first bi-annual conference for the year 2023. The meeting opened this July 17, 2023 under the theme « security challenges against the backdrop of serious crimes and drug trafficking in Schools ». The opening session at the Yaounde City Council hall was chaired by the Minister of Territorial Administration Atanga Nji Paul. In his opening speech, MINAT revealed that, there have been an increase in crime wave in urban and peri-urban areas, repeated assaults in taxis, on moto bikes, thus, time to put some order in the transport sector. Other issues addressed were; the rise in drug trafficking, drug use in schools, highway robbery, rise of hate speech and tribalism perpetrated by some private media organs. A presentation on the security situation of the country was made by the General Delegate for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele and Secretary of State for Defence in Charge of the National Gendarmerie Galax Yves Etoga where they disclosed that the country’s security situation is under control despite some threats to public order in some towns.
